Raspberry Pi Smart Car (PiCar S) for Raspberry Pi 3/2/B+ – The PiCar-S is an smart car robot learning kit based on Raspberry Pi. The kit comes equipped with an Ultrasonic object detection module, line following module, light detection sensor to follow the light source, smart car platform with servos, wheel, robot HAT board that fits onto the Raspberry Pi, motor driver, battery holder, etc. The new version of the PiCar-S is designed with features, comes with three whole new circuit boards and simplified wiring setup. The smart car chassis is strong and built to be durable. It is a well-designed structure, solid, durable and shatterproof. You can program the car in Python or using block based programming language. Sample Python code to control the car is provided, and you can also program and debug it with Dragit, a block based graphical interface, by just simple dragging and dropping the code blocks for complex functions.

You can control the car using either a web browser including from mobile devices i.e. phones, tablets, etc. Using the on-board ultrasonic sensors you can detect obstacles and smartly navigate around them. The kit includes everything you need to build the Smart car. You will need to purchase a Raspberry Pi, a mini SD Card (the Pi uses that as  hard drive), and two 18650 rechargeable lithium batteries. Those batteries are enough to power both the Pi itself (so the car isn’t tethered) as well as provide enough voltage to run the 3 servos AND motors to drive and steer the car around. You can also expand the car with other attachments like light sensors, line followers, and more. The PiCar 2.0 includes the chassis, a nice USB WiFi adapter with antenna (one less thing to think about if you’re using a Raspberry Pi  like me), including a pair of ultrasonic sensors. It includes a TB6612 Motor Driver, PCA9685 PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) Servo Driver with 16 channels for future expansion. The kit also helpfully includes all the tools, screwdriver, wrenches, and bolts. All the code for the SunFounder PiCar-S is on GitHub including a bunch of YouTube videos from various folks online doing the same thing which will speed up your STEM learning journey. Documentation is included and accessible online ensuring that you have help every step of the way.
